Brian Ortega’s misfortune was Yair Rodriguez’s gain.

“El Pantera” earned a significant victory in the featherweight division at UFC on ABC 3, when Ortega suffered a shoulder injury in the opening round of their headlining clash at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., this past Saturday. While it wasn’t the type of statement-making triumph Rodriguez probably had in mind, it nonetheless keeps him relevant in the 145-pound title discussion while also allowing him to move up one spot ahead of Ortega to No. 5 in Sherdog.com's latest divisional rankings.

Meanwhile, Amanda Lemos makes a move in the strawweight poll after tapping out Michelle Waterson-Gomez with a second-round guillotine in the “UFC Long Island” co-main event. “Amandinha” is 6-1 in her last seven Octagon appearances — with her lone defeat coming at the hands of Jessica Andrade — and as a result, she climbs from 12th to ninth at 115 pounds. Waterson-Gomez, who has won just once in her last five outings, falls from the rankings completely, clearing the way for Emily Ducote to make her bubble debut at No. 15 following a win over Jessica Penne in her UFC debut.

The other big winner at UFC on ABC 3 was Matt Schnell, who was part of a “Round of the Year” candidate during his flyweight bout against Su Mudaerji and moves from 10th to ninth at 125 pounds on the basis of his enthralling come-from-behind submission victory.
