(PRESS RELEASE) -- Philadelphia, PA -- Matrix Fights (www.MatrixFights.com) formally announced Wednesday the co-main events for Matrix Fights VII “Presented by Sugarhouse Casino” (www.SugarHouseCasino.com) on Oct. 26, 2012 in South Philadelphia at the Sheet Metal Worker’s Union Hall.
The top of the card will also feature Philadelphia favorite and Bellator Fighting Championships veteran Jesus Martinez (6-3) as he takes on dynamic Tae Kwon Do master Tiawan Howard (9-9).
“Matrix has clearly established itself as the premier combat sports organization in the Delaware Valley and Matrix VII will allow us to continue to carry that torch,” said Matrix Fights Promoter Jimmy Binns Jr. “Matrix VI featured a Fight of the Year candidate in Carina Damm vs. Munah Holland and both Munah and Mike Mucitelli received long-term deals from Bellator as a result of their performances.”
With Mucitelli and Holland having earned contracts with major promotions as a result of winning efforts at Matrix VI, many pundits are speculating that Wilson Reis could be the next to join them on the national stage. Having fought for EliteXC and Bellator, Reis is currently on a two-fight win streak and a win over Vaughan could catapult him into the UFC’s ever-expanding bantamweight division.
“Wilson is one of the best black belts in the world under Roberto Godoi and receives world class MMA training at Alliance MMA in San Diego and Daddis Fight Camps/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu United in Philly,” began Binns. “We’re fortunate to have him back on Matrix yet again but my sense is that this could be his last area fight for quite some time. Then again, Billy Vaughan has one punch knockout power and is the kind of spoiler who can render someone’s ground skills useless.”
Other pro fights include rising prospect Matt Rizzo vs. Arthur Parker; the pro debut of BJJ and Judo black belt Marius Enache against Chris Ramos; and Balance Studios standout Joe Del Viscio vs. Terrence McDonald.
Additionally, Matrix Fights VII on Oct. 26 will feature a stacked amateur undercard headlined by Albert Alvarez, the younger brother of former Bellator world lightweight champion Ed Alvarez.
