Geronimo de Groot Interview

Feb 23, 2010

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Geronimo de Groot lost his MMA debut against Jermain Voetman at M-1 Selection 2010: Western Europe Round 1.

How long have you been training Martial Arts and MMA?
I am training MMA for about 5 to 6 months, but I have been practicing Judo since I was 6 years old. When I was 10 years old I started kickboxing. I have 36 fights in kickboxing with 25 wins, 8 losses and 3 draws.

You are only 16 years old, don't you thinks you are to young to fight?
No, I don't see myself as too young. I think it's an advantage, what do I have to lose against someone who is in his prime? And I think that if you see my fights and results you can see yourself that this isn't a disadvantage.

Last friday you had your first MMA fight on the M-1 selection, was it what you expected?
It was exhausting, even after my training I was really suprised about the different sort of condition you need in MMA. Further more I see it as a new beginning, like a second child. My first one was kickboxing and my second is MMA!

Do you have any injuries as a result of the fight?
No, only some minor abrasions.

Are you going to focus on MMA or on Kickboxing in the future?
It will be 50/50 in the near future because I can't chose right now...But my next fight will be an MMA fight on February 21 against a Belgian fighter. We shall see what that will bring!

Are there any specific MMA fighters you would like to fight?
Yes, Gina Carano hahaha And in time I want to fight the best... If you wonana be the best, you got to beat the best!

What else do you do besides fighting?
I am still a student so I am pretty busy with that and besides school I am also a model. But when I am done with training and school I like to do nothing, eat all day and hang around...
