(PRESS RELEASE) -- Tacoma, WA (July 7th, 2013) – In a night of fast paced action, Featherweight champion, Drew Brokenshire, was able to defend his title for the second time, defeating Marlin Weikel in the main event at Halquist Productions’ CageSport XXV at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA. In the semi-main event title eliminator match, Lee Morrison scored the unanimous decision victory over Julian Erosa, earning a shot at Brokenshire’s featherweight title at an upcoming CageSport. A thrilling undercard pleased fans in attendance who were expecting a good night of fights from one of the most stacked cards in CageSport history.
The highly anticipated bout between Julian Erosa and Lee Morrison turned out to be a grizzly battle that stayed on the ground the entire time. Erosa who has typically shown that he prefers the standup game was not able to avoid the takedown, as Morrison was relentless in his attack to keep Erosa on the ground. Erosa showed good defense while on the ground, not letting Morrison getting anything more than a mere takedown, but that was enough for the judges to unanimously give the decision to new number one featherweight contender, Lee Morrison, all scoring the fight 30-27.
Morrison is set to take on Drew Brokenshire for the featherweight title in either August or October. Other title speculation arose from CageSport after Tacoma’s Alfonso Gonzales easily defeated Josh Hewson via first round TKO. Announcer, Kenny Davis, asked Gonzales about his thoughts on the opportunity to take on current CageSport middleweight champion, Brent Knopp, in a title match, and Alfonso expressed that he would be glad to do so. Immediately after, Knopp stepped into the ring and also agreed to the fight.
