(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Badbeat 13 Main Event features a highly anticipated 25-minute championship bout between BAMMA USA bantamweight champion Terrion Ware (11-3) and challenger Jeff Martin (10-10). Last March at ‘Badbeat 12′, after five exciting rounds of technical grappling and striking, Terrion Ware (11-3) earned a unanimous decision victory over Eric Winston (5-2) and was crowned the first BAMMA USA bantamweight champion. When asked about his emotions after winning the belt, Ware said, “I felt relief. That was the first thing I felt because it was a goal I set out to do and it finally came to fruition. The second was happiness because I’ve accepted that in this sport you can lose in the blink of an eye; and all the hard work, dieting and the long tiring hours in the gym could all go to waste. So winning especially against a tough opponent (Winston) was a very happy moment for me. Not to mention that I will go down in history as the first-ever BAMMA USA bantamweight champion, which is pretty cool”.
After nearly a year, Jeff Martin will make his appearance inside the BAMMA USA cage. Last September, Martin took Jared ‘The Jackhammer’ Papazian to the brink of their fight when he secured a triangle lock against the UFC veteran. Martin then transitioned to an armbar and nearly got the finish, but the patient Papazian broke free, took dominant position and earned a TKO win after landing a barrage of strikes forcing the ref to stop the fight. Though Martin lost the fight, it showed everyone at the Braemar Country Club that the Fight Academy-Santa Clarita Valley product was a gamer. After the yearlong layoff from MMA competition and now being fully healthy, it didn’t take long for BAMMA USA CEO Brett Roberts to offer Jeff Martin the title shot. Roberts stated, “Jeff Martin is an exciting bantamweight fighter in my opinion. In his ten wins, he has finished nine of his opponents. With our other top BAMMA USA bantamweights getting opportunities in bigger promotions to showcase their skills, it was a mix of great timing and Jeff’s skill set to decide to give him the opportunity to fight for the title. People might see this fight as only a striker versus a grappler. All I see is a great fight. Both men wanting to prove something. One wanting to stay on top of the mountain, and the other chomping at the bit to showcase his skills. October 10th, there’s going to be a twenty-five minute war”.
When asked about getting the call for the title shot, Martin said, “My initial feeling was excitement to fight for the BAMMA USA belt. Then I realized I have a 5×5 minute rounds against a tough opponent and the excitement faded. I then became more serious about the task at hand”. Though there may be pressure on the champion Ware, Martin knows there’s also pressure on him to perform well. “Every opponent is dangerous in their own way. Terrion has great hands, footwork and head movement. But I’m sure he will surprise me with even more talents. I plan on executing my game plan and surprise him with some of my own talents that he has no idea about”. On October 10th, both men’s talents will be on full display in this scheduled 25-minute championship bout at Badbeat 13.
