Zuffa Finalizes 10-Fight Lineup for WEC 50

World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight contender Scott
Jorgensen will face Brad
Pickett in a featured matchup at 135 pounds at WEC 50 “Cruz vs.
Benavidez 2” on Aug. 18 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
The promotion on Wednesday finalized a 10-bout lineup for the
event, which will air live on the Versus network.
Spawned by the Twisted Genetiks camp, Jorgensen has rattled off four consecutive victories and finds himself right in the middle of the bantamweight title hunt. The 27-year-old last appeared at WEC 48 in April, when he avenged a controversial 2009 defeat to Antonio Banuelos in a unanimous decision victory. Wins over the world-ranked Takeya Mizugaki, Dream veteran Kenji Osawa and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 cast member Noah Thomas anchor Jorgensen’s resume. He wrestled collegiately at Boise State University, where he was a three-time Pac-10 Conference champion.
Pickett will carry a nine-fight winning streak into the match. The
31-year-old American Top Team rep has not competed since he earned
a unanimous nod over previously unbeaten Matt Hume
protégé Demetrious
Johnson at WEC 48 three months ago. Pickett, the former Cage
Rage featherweight champion, has secured 15 of his 19 career
victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. The London
native has not lost in more than three years.
A bantamweight championship match between titleholder Dominick Cruz and Joseph Benavidez will headline WEC 50, along with a pivotal lightweight tilt between Anthony Pettis and three-time collegiate All-American wrestler Shane Roller. In addition, the show will feature a lightweight duel pairing International Fight League veteran Bart Palaszewski against Zachary Micklewright and a featherweight showdown pairing unbeaten Team Alpha Male standout Chad Mendes with Cub Swanson.
