Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner and unbeaten opponent Kamal Shalorus both made weight Saturday in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Varner came in at 156 pounds, and Shalorus was 155. The two lightweights square off Sunday in the main event of WEC 49 at Rexall Place.

Shalorus called Varner the best opponent he’s ever faced.
“I have to be very smart,” Shalorus said. “No mistakes.”
Featherweight contenders Josh Grispi (145) and L.C. Davis (146) hit their marks as well. The matchup is the highly touted Grispi’s first since he defeated Jens Pulver in June 2009. Davis, a solid wrestler and a prospect as well, is 3-0 in the WEC.
Mark Hominick (144.5) and Yves Jabouin (145) were also within the featherweight limit. Their matchup is the only all-Canadian affair on the main card of WEC 49, which is the promotion’s first event in Canada.
Rounding out the main card, Chris Horodecki was 154 for his bout against Danny Downes (156), and Eddie Wineland weighed 135.5 for his fight against Will Campuzano (136).
WEC 49 airs live on Versus at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
