WEC 43 Moves to San Antonio

Donald
Cerrone will meet Benson
Henderson for the interim World Extreme Cagefighting
lightweight championship in the WEC 43 featured bout on Oct. 10 at
the AT&T Center in San Antonio, more than a month after they
were originally scheduled to collide in the cage. WEC officials
made the announcement on Friday.
Initially booked for Sept. 2 at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, Ohio, the event was postponed earlier this week. The promotion cited a minor injury to Henderson as the reason behind the change, though the switch in venue suggests other factors were at play.
A product of Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts in Albuquerque, N.M.,
Cerrone has posted three wins in four fights, a technical decision
loss to current WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner
the lone blemish. The versatile 26-year-old has delivered nine of
his 10 career victories by submission and holds notable wins
against former WEC titleholder “Razor” Rob
McCullough and UFC veterans Ryan
Roberts and Nate Mohr.
Henderson, meanwhile, has enjoyed a rapid rise through the WEC ranks. Based out of The Lab in Glendale, Ariz., he will carry an eight-fight winning streak into his bout with Cerrone. Like his opponent, he cut his teeth on the Ring of Fire circuit. Victories against one-time Palace Fighting Championship titleholder Diego Saraiva and three-time collegiate All-American Shane Roller highlight his resume.
WEC 43 “Cerrone vs. Henderson” will also feature the promotional debut of unbeaten lightweight prospect Dave Jansen, as he locks horns with former title contender Rich Crunkilton.
Jansen, a winner in all 12 of his professional fights, last appeared at an M-1 Challenge event in July, when he submitted Amirkhan Mazihov with a guillotine choke in just 22 seconds. Rooted at the American Kickboxing Academy, Crunkilton has rattled off seven wins in eight bouts.
