UFC Signs Norwegian ADCC World Champion Jon Olav Einemo

Golden Glory heavyweight Jon Olav Einemo has signed a deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, according to a press release issued by the Dutch gym on Monday.

Einemo, 35, holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is notable for being the only man to defeat current Strikeforce signee Roger Gracie in the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships. The Oslo native took home ADCC gold in 2003, when he won the under-218 pound division.

In his mixed martial arts campaign, Einemo holds a mark of 6-1, with none of his half-dozen wins having gone the distance. The 6-foot-6 Norwegian did not see MMA action from 2003 to 2006 due to a flesh-eating bacterial infection in his foot that developed after a foot surgery, which nearly cost him a leg.

Upon his return, Einemo suffered the sole loss of his career, a unanimous decision defeat against Fabricio Werdum at Pride 31 in February 2006. He would rebound with a first-round submission of James Thompson in November of that year, but has not competed in MMA since. Einemo was scheduled to take on Croatia’s Kresimir Bogdanovic in Serbia this past summer, but the bout did not materialize.
