Sydney’s Whittaker has been on a tear in the Octagon since dropping two straight bouts nearly three years ago. Since losing to Stephen Thompson at UFC 170, “The Reaper” has won five in a row. Whittaker closed out 2015 with dominant decision win over Uriah Hall and then toppled Rafael Natal in April at UFC 197. Now his sights are set on Brunson and a win over him will inch him ever closer to a potential title shot at 185 pounds. At the scale, Whittaker clocked in officially at 185 pounds.
Brunson, meanwhile, has been equally as hot as his upcoming foe. The North Carolinian has also won his last five, with his last four all coming via first-round knockout. Ed Herman, Sam Alvey, Roan Carneiro and -- most recently at UFC Fight Night 94 -- Uriah Hall have all succumbed to Brunson’s power. The last man to topple Brunson was Yoel Romero almost three years ago and the American isn’t planning on letting the Aussie be the next. At the scale, he came in at 186 pounds.
UFC Fight Night 101 will begin on UFC Fight Pass at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. From there, the remainder of the event will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
