UFC Fight Night Weigh-In Results: Munoz, Mousasi Official for Berlin Headliner
Mark
Munoz and Gegard
Mousasi want to remain relevant in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship’s top-heavy middleweight
division.
Munoz tipped the scales at 186 pounds for his five-round clash with Mousasi (185) in the UFC Fight Night “Munoz vs. Mousasi” main event on Saturday at the O2 World in Berlin. Middleweight co-headliners Francis Carmont (186) and C.B. Dollaway (186) also met their mandatory weight requirements without issue at Friday’s official weigh-in.
A
Reign MMA representative, Munoz has lost two of his past three
fights. The 36-year-old Californian last appeared at a UFC Fight
Night event in October, when he was felled by a Lyoto
Machida head kick at the Phones 4U Arena in Manchester,
England. “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” was a two-time NCAA
All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State University, where he won a
national championship at 197 pounds in 2001. Munoz has compiled an
8-4 record since arriving in the UFC in March 2009.
Mousasi last fought at a UFC Fight Night show in February, when he dropped a unanimous decision to the aforementioned Machida at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil. The 28-year-old Iranian-born Dutchman has held titles inside the Strikeforce, Dream and Cage Warriors Fighting Championship promotions. A deft finisher, Mousasi has secured 29 of his 34 career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. Wins over Renato Sobral, Mark Hunt, Hector Lombard and Ronaldo Souza anchor his resume.
UFC Fight Night “Munoz vs. Mousasi” -- which streams to UFC Fight Pass at 12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 a.m. PT -- will also feature a middleweight scrap pairing Luke Barnatt (185) with former King of the Cage champion Sean Strickland (186) and a featherweight duel pitting Shooto alum Tom Niinimaki (145) against the unbeaten Niklas Backstrom (146).
Six preliminary bouts round out the UFC’s return to Germany: Nick Hein (154) vs. Drew Dober (155), Magnus Cedenblad (185) vs. Krzysztof Jotko (185), Iuri Alcantara (136) vs. Vaughan Lee (136), Peter Sobotta (171) vs. Pawel Pawlak (170), Andy Ogle (146) vs. Maximo Blanco (145) and Viktor Pesta (240) vs. Ruslan Magomedov (249).
