UFC Fight Night 20 Results and Live Play-by-Play

Sherdog.com reports from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va., with UFC Fight Night 20 results and live play-by-play. In the main event, Gray Maynard and Nate Diaz will square off in a lightweight showdown.

Nick Catone vs. Jesse Forbes
Round 1
Both fighters exchange straight punches to start. Forbes drops Catone to a knee with a short right and they clinch. They separate and Catone is bleeding from the nose looking to time a straight right. Both fighters exchanging, Catone with a teep kick. They clinch and Catone presses Forbes to the fence, getting off a few overhand shots. Catone shoots but Forbes wrests him off. Forbes controlling the center, Catone in with a body kick. Catone shoots again but is halted with an over-under clinch. Catone knees Forbes low and gets a pause. Catone with heavy overhand rights and both fighters mix up strikes as the round closes. Forbes is holding one of Catone's legs as the horn sounds. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 Forbes.

Catone vs. Forbes.
Round 2
Catone trying again for the overhand right. Forbes clips him with a hard right hook. Both men exploding in fits of strikes then resetting. Body kicks land by Catone. Catone starts to connect with rights but again fails on a takedown attempt. Forbes pressing Catone against the fence but Catone getting more strikes off in tight. They separate. Catone getting through on more punches and getting his timing down. Catone again catches Forbes with a right coming in and they clinch up. Catone with a hard teep kick to the gut as the round ends. 10-9 Catone.



Round 3
Forbes with a nice right hook that trips up Catone. Catone persistent with straight rights. Catone gets a double leg takedown and the crowd is pleased to see it. Forbes rides a high guard for a moment as Catone looks for elbows. Fast standup from the referee and crowd is booing. Both fighters paw at each as Catone times the shot and scores another takedown, landing in half-guard. Forbes scrambles back up and Catone tries to hold him down. Catone gets through with a right. Catone shoots again but is stuffed. Catone fires off an elbow off the break. Catone drives in and clinches through some punches. Both men with knees, Forbes with a body lock. Catone comes up again with an elbow and straight right as the fight wraps. 10-9 Catone.

Catone wins a split decision with scores of 28-29, 29-28 and 29-28.

Gerald Harris vs. John Salter
Round 1
Harris with a right and Salter's mouth piece falls out, causing a brief pause. Both men tentative, feeling each other out with punches. Harris pumping the right, Salter closes in as Harris tries to drop for a takedown. Salter, an NAIA wrestling champion, controlling the front headlock position. Harris stands up and breaks off. Both fighters very slow to engage and putting out one punch at a time. Salter shoots and Harris stays upright, breaking free as Salter whiffs with a punch. Salter bleeding from the nose. Harris trips up trying to pump a right jab as Salter moves forward. Crowd boos slow action after the horn. Sherdog.com sees it as an even 10-10 round.

Harris vs. Salter.
Round 2
Both fighters back to putting punches out there to see what happens. Salter rushes in with a series of punches but nothing lands. Harris in with a serviceable uppercut. Harris puts a jab out and stuffs a shot. Harris on the back of Salter, whose holding on to a leg. Harris working with ribs with short punches. Back up and they separate. Harris looks frustrated. Harris throwing harder shots and trying to best gauge the distance. Salter's nose in bad shape, blood smeared. Harris crouching and firing when Salter comes forward. Sherdog.com scores the frame 10-9 Harris.



Round 3
Harris more aggressive with punches but Salter hooks an ankle and gets the takedown. Salter holding tight and Harris backdoors out and proceeds to work from guard. Harris looks like he's swimming faking like he's going to drop punches. Crowd hates that. Referee stands them up. "Hit his ass!", a spectator shouts. Harris shoots a double, gets it, caught in half guard. People screaming as Harris to throw elbows. He throws a few, and begins raining punches. The crowd loves it. The referee stops it at the 3:24 mark, giving Harris the win.

Kyle Bradley vs. Rafael dos Anjos
Round 1
Dos Anjos closed with punches and a clinch attempt but is shoved off. Dos Anjos whiffs on a high kick. Leg kicks by Bradley. Left hook by Dos Anjos makes a smacking noise on Bradley's head. Bradley head kick blocked. Dos Anjos fires down the pike, Dos Anjos with a leg kick that catches Bradley low. Double leg from Dos Anjos off a kick and they hit the mat. Dos Anjos with punches from inside the guard. Dos Anjos in half guard, Bradley uses a whizzer to rise up. Dos Anjos with a hard body kick and overhand right. Dos Anjos knocks Bradley's head back with a left just before the horn sounds. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Dos Anjos.

Dos Anjos vs. Bradley.
Round 2
Dos Anjos keeping Bradley at bay and shoots in for a single, dragging Bradley to the mat. He passes guard and lines up a kimura but lets it slip. Dos Anjos maneuvers to north-south and crowd can't handle the visual. Dos Anjos working again for a kimura and drops for an armbar, losing it. Both stand and the crowd pops big. Bradley with a big uppercut and they're slinging. Dos Anjos drops for a takedown and gets it, working elbows and punches from half guard. Bradley re-claims full guard but still eating shots. Hammerfists pile up as Bradley also tries some punches off his back. Dos Anjos with more punches as the round ends. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Dos Anjos.


Round 3
Dos Anjos with left hook and clinches up. Bradley lands one knee but is taken down off a second attempt. Dos Anjos works punches as Bradley rolls for an armbar. Dos Anjos grinding out shots and pinning Bradley down. Bradley able to roll Dos Anjos off of him and stand. Bradley kicking at Dos Anjos in the butt scoot position. Dos Anjos stands and answers a body kick with a left. Dos Anjos shoots and presses Bradley against the fence. Dos Anjos digging for the takedown, and gets a lift and slam. Dos Anjos active with punches while looking to pass. He gets to mount just as the final horn sounds. 10-9 Dos Anjos.

Dos Anjos takes the unanimous decision with scorss of 30-27 across the board.

Rory MacDonald vs. Michael Guymon

MacDonald vs. Guymon.
Guymon shoots and presses MacDonald against the cage. MacDonald brings him down and works to pass. Lots of jockeying for position. MacDonald passes and Guymon stands up, getting clipped with a knee in the process. Guymon shoots again and tries to bring it down. They break and MacDonald gets off a punch/kick combination. Guymon drops MacDonald to a knee with a right and MacDonald lunges for the leg. MacDoanld recoers quickly and its back standing. MacDonald catches a kick and brings Guymon down. Guymon tries to back door out but it pinned down. MacDonald passes to side and peppering Guymon with punches.

Guymon struggling to improve and MacDonald shoots for kimura. MacDonald sits down for an armbar and Guymon gets caught. He taps at 4:27 of the first. Guymon takes an extended knee, but appears in good spirits.

Nik Lentz vs. Thiago Tavares
Round 1
Lentz with a leg and head kick to start. Lentz rushes in and gets Tavares down for a second. Tavares back up and defending kicks. Lentz with a more solid takedown but Tavares scrambles up. Tavares closing on and sprawls out of a takedown. Lentz more active on the feet, jabs and leg kicks. Tavares tries a guillotine off a Lentz takedown attempt and is cranking it on the floor. Lentz survives and crowd roars. Lentz now on top, Tavares scrambles up. Both fighters trade strikes and Tavares shoots for a single. Referee separate them as Tavares gets nowhere from the position. Lentz tries another takedown but is shrugged off as the round closes. 10-9 Lentz.

Tavares vs. Lentz.
Lentz with hard kicks while circling. Tavares with head kicks attempts and Lentz throws one of his own off a fit of grappling. Tavares with the plum clinch but Lentz is free. Lentz back to leg kicks that Tavares is trying to time with straight punches. Lentz with two uppercuts in the clinch. Tavares lands a good left hook. Lentz with a body kick but gets caught in the groin with a foot in the crotch from a Tavares kick. After a pause they mix it up, with Tavares getting off harder shots. Tavares shots for a takedown but nothing. Tavares with a takedown as Lentz closes in, pressing him against the fence. Lentz entertains an armbar but Tavares able to keep position as the round ends. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Tavares.

Round 3
Both fighters trade leg kicks, Tavares looks the more aggressive and fresher. Lentz still landing, though. Tavares hits Lentz low again with a hard leg kick after catching a Lentz kick attempt. Mario Yamasaki deducts a point from Tavares, and it doesn't appear Lentz is going to have an easy time recovering. It appears Lentz is heaving on the mat. Doctors and officials surrounding Lentz, who stands but wears some pain on his face. Lentz takes a walk and the referee restarts the action. Avares has Lentz blooding and is working for a big shot. Lentz unsuccessful with a takedown attempt. Lentz slower with huis punches and Tavares looks crisp. Lentz gets a takedown but Tavares up quickly. Tavares with a body kick. Both fighters with punch combinations. Tavares getting the jab off. Big shot from Tavares had Lentz wobbled but Tavares doesn't close in. Lentz clinches up. A bloody Lentz looks to clip Tavares with a straight as the round ends. Sherdog.com scores the round 9-9.

Official result: 28-28, 28-28 and 29-27 for a majority draw. The crowd boos loudly.

Jesse Lennox vs. Rick Story
Round 1
Both fighters with heavy punch combos early. Lennox with a right cross that lands. Story goes high with a head kick that is blocked. A second one opens up a jab that lands. Lennox cut over the right eye. Both fighters gauging the timing, Story controlling the center, Lennox with good avoidance. Heavy punches missing. Story clinches up but it doesn't go anywhere. Story with a knee from the Thai plum, Lennox drags him down, but Story right back up. They separate and Lennox with a pair of kicks. Story with a body shot and goes upstairs with a hook and head kick to close the round. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Story.

Story vs. Lennox.
Round 2
Story with a hard straight left to the face to start. Story shoots for a takedown and gets him down. Story with ground and pound and passes the guard. Lennox gets it back but Story holding firm in the position. Story backs off and Lennox stands. Back to trading. Story with a left, Lennox with a body kick. Story gets hit in the neck with a right high kick but it's not full-force. Story with a one-two on the bloody face of Lennox. Story cleanly outboxing him. Story catches a kick and gets off a hook to the face. Story pours it on in the final 10 seconds. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Story.


Round 3
Lennox shoots a great double leg takedown for a turning slam to shut down an aggressive Story. Story works for a kimura but Lennox gets side mount. Lennox ties up one of Story's arms with his legs, almost in a reverse crucifix position. Story stands with Lennox across his back and jumps down, like a Samoan drop in pro wrestling. Story now working from side mount. Story cranking an Americana but loses it, and Lennox gets up. Story gets the takedown and works somme punches on the ground, raining them down but getting wrapped up in a triangle predicament. Lennox struggles to close it off and Story passes. Both fighters stand and Lennox coming with big overhand rights that miss. Lennox with two body kicks as the exciting fight wraps. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Story.

Story takes the unanimous decision with scores of 30-27 (twice) and 29-28.

Jay Silva vs. Chris Leben
Round 1
Silva with a jumping knee and Leven tries the takedown. Referee Dan Miragliotta misses a ence grab by Silva, but Leben gets him to the floor. Leben gets mount and goes Donkey Kong, turning Silva over. Leben looking for the rear naked and throwing punches to the side of the head. Leben with aggressive punches. Leben still working the choke with a body triangle. Leben gets the choke around the jaw but not low enough to tap him, and Leben relinquishes. Leben sticking on Silva with the body triangle. Silva ties up Leben's arms and comes, frees himself and comes up swinging wildly as the round ends. 10-9 Leben.

Round 2
Arena-wide "Leben!" chant the round begins. Silva controlling the center and Leben looking to time an overhand shot. Big body knee by Leben. Leben slips a punch and gets the takedown. Leben working elbows from guard. Leben passes and mounts Silva. Silva rolls and Lebens back to punches to the side of the head. Leben snatches the neck again looking for the rear naked, but he doesn't have the position. Leben content to drop punches from back mount for the rest of the frame. 10-9 Leben.




Round 3
Silva comes on with heavy punches. Leben grabs a body lock and works foot stomps that the crowd cheers loudly, exclaiming anew with each stomp. Referee separates them. Leben answers a body kick with left. Leben clinches up and pushes Silva to the fence. They separate and Leben with overhand lefts to chase down Silva. Silva pressing Leben on the fence, where Leben gets the plum clinch. Silva shoots for a takedown but Leben sprawls, transitioning into side control. Leben with elbows to the body from top control seals the round decisively. 10-9 Leben.

Leben takes the unanimous decision with scores of 30-27 from all three official judges.

Brad Blackburn vs. Amir Sadollah
Round 1
Sadollah jabs and Blackburn bounces a low kick off of his cup. The fighters touch gloves. Sadollah kicks the body and legs from the outside and Blackburn closes the distance to trade punches on the inside. Both fighters connect in flurries. The fighters separate and Sadollah lands some leather in the form of a right hook that backs Blackburn up. Sadollah continues to work the jab and right low kick. Sadollah pushes his opponent away with a teep kick before finishing the exchange with a low kick to Blackburn’s left leg. Blackburn returns fire with a jab of his own and a right hook that misses. Sadollah lunges forward and is caught with a right-hook counter. The fighters clinch and Blackburn presses his opponent against the fencing. Sadollah connects with a straight left-hand lead that buckles Blackburn’s legs. Sadollah lands a knee to the chin and takes his prey to the canvas. Blackburn stands and is hit by a front kick.

Sadollah vs. Blackburn.
The fighters trade low kicks that land for each man. Sadollah uses his teep kick to setup his hands, but Blackburn is starting to defend it properly. Sadollah connects with a right-hook lead. Following a brief clinch, Blackburn goes to work with his jab and right hand. Blackburn closes the distance again and leans against his opponent with no underhooks or desire to go to the floor. Referee Mario Yamasaki senses that Blackburn is resting so he restarts the fighters. Sadollah is hit with a short left hook. He answers with a front kick to the midsection. Blackburn clinches again and Sadollah rams a knee into his belly. Blackburn applies a body lock and misses a right knee to the face. Sadollah gets off the fence and gets the best of a punching exchange.

Sadollah exits the pocket with a left kick to the liver. Sadollah lands a snapping low kick to Blackburn’s lead leg. Sadollah misses a head kick at the horn.

Round 3
Sadollah goes back to the body with a hard left kick. Sadollah stumbles Blackburn with a right hand and a knee. Sadollah swoops in and takes his foe to the floor, where he begins to work from guard. Blackburn goes high with hips in search of offense from his back. Sadollah has none of it. He passes guard and quickly moves to side control. Sadollah loses position when he attempts to mount, and is back in Blackburn’s closed guard. Sadollah crawls Blackburn to the fencing, where he can trap his opponent. Sadollah then pulls him away from the cage by his foot and lands a lunging right. The former TUF champion engages Blackburn on the floor and locks up a half-hearted brabo choke. Blackburn is not endangered. Sadollah gives up the hold and begins to elbow the head from half guard. Sadollah can’t seem to pass, so he knees the body and goes back to work with elbows. Sadollah pours it on in the final seconds with punches.

Aaron Simpson vs. Tom Lawlor
Round 1
Simpson jabs and eats a powerful punching flurry from Lawlor. Simpson steps forward after clearing his head and lands a right hand to the body. Lawlor is all over Simpson with punches from both hands. Simpson is hurt as lefts and rights smack his face. Lawlor works in an uppercut that snaps Simpson’s head back. And another. Simpson looks for a desperation takedown and Lawlor has none of it. Lawlor continues to absolutely level Simpson with power shots. Simpson’s legs are wobbly, but he hangs in there. The pace slows and Simpson recovers. He pounds on the lead leg of Lawlor with low kicks. Lawlor is gassed following the torrent of blows thrown through the opening minutes of the contest.

Simpson vs. Lawlor.
Simpson looks fresh to start round two. He lands a right-hand lead and drops down to connect a straight left to the body. Simpson closes the distance and works for a single-leg takedown. He succeeds. From half guard, Simpson elbows the head with his right arm. Lawlor turns his back and gets to his feet. Simpson lands a jab. Lawlor charges forward and shakes Simpson’s frame with a right-hook lead. Simpson recoveres and misses a spinning-back fist. Lawlor presses his opponent into the cage and Simpson pounds the body with punches. Lawlor counters a body shot with a left hook that lands clean. Lawlor applies a standing guillotine. Simpson escapes and works wrist control and knees to the midsection. Simpson lands a right hand and gets a takedown. Lawlor works for a guillotine as time expires.

Round 3
Lawlor roughs Simpson up with a right hand. Simpson lowers his head and bounces his right foot off the body of Lawlor. Simpson continues to get hit by the counter-punching Lawlor. Simpson, with his back to the fence, gets a sneaky single-leg slam. Lawlor stands and works for a double-leg takedown. He gets it, but can’t hold Simpson down. Lawlor drops and rolls for a kimura. Simpson stays calm and takes the top position. Simpson frees his arm and takes the mount. Lawlor gives up his back and Simpson tries to secure hooks. He gets one, but Lawlor defends before he can secure the dominant position. Lawlor scrambles and Simpson ends up on his back again. This time he sinks in both hooks. Lawlor escapes and attempts a single. Simpson pulls his leg free and punishes his challenger with dirty boxing. A punching exchange unfolds in the final 10 seconds. Lawlor gets the best of it.

Efrain Escudero vs. Evan Dunham
Round 1
Dunham shrugs off an Escudero single leg in the opening seconds. And another. Escudero lands a kick to the body and rushes in to clinch. Dunham, a southpaw, gets space and misses a left-hand lead. Escudero lands a straight right and goes back to the clinch. Dunham gets off the cage and is rocked by an uppercut. Escudero opens up with his hands and he’s all over Dunham with powershots. A right hand knocks Dunham to the floor. Escudero pounces and Dunham works for an armbar. Escudero escapes and works for a guillotine. Dunham gets free and stands to his feet. Both fighters attempt jumping knees at the same exact moment. Dunham times the jump and pushes Escudero to the floor.

Round 2
There’s an incidental clash of heads as the fighters open up to exchange. Neither fighter is cut. Dunham lands a left straight. Dunham connects with his opponent’s mouth on a left straight. Escudero laughs it off. Now smiling, Escudero uses head movement to evade a one-two from Dunham. Escudero gets sloppy and Dunham trips him to the canvas. Dunham elbows the head from the top in half guard. Left hands reign down on the face of Escudero. Dunham transitions to the back of Escudero. He locks on a body triangle and starts to work the head and body with punches. Dunham turns Escudero over and flattens him out. Dunham in complete control as time expires.

Round 3
Dunham shoots in for a single. Escudero pulls guard with a guillotine. Escudero rolls him over and tightens the hold. Dunham escapes and gets back to his feet, where he trips his opponent to the floor. Dunham immediately goes to Escudero’s back and trasnsitions to an armbar. He looks briefly for a triangle before going back to work on the arm. Escudero is in major trouble. Escudero’s arm is fully extended and Dunham is pushing it beyond its limits. Escudero tries to fight through it, but the arm pops, causing him to tap. The official time is 1:59 of the third.

Gray Maynard vs. Nate Diaz
Round 1
Diaz lands a left hand and Maynard is cut above his right eye. Diaz is pawing a slow jab and Maynard is loading up to swing for the fences. Diaz lands a right hand and a low kick. Diaz is frustrating Maynard with a steady boxing game through the midway point of round one. Diaz jabs with his right hand and misses a follow-up hook. Maynard is on a record-breaking pace for missed haymakers. Diaz lands a left to the body and taunts his opponent. Diaz holds the left glove of Maynard and connects with a straight right. Sloppy round.

Round 2
Maynard continues to load up on his right hand. Neither fighter lands anything of significance until Maynard knocks an off-balanced Diaz to the floor with a glancing knee to the chin. Maynard is starting to score with his right hand as Diaz lowers his head to strike. Diaz pieces together a one-two combo and connects with a low kick to finish. Diaz starts to flail a bit and Maynard throws him off and misses a wild right hand. Another sloppy round.

Round 3
Diaz misses five straight punches to start the round. Diaz glances a right head kick off the side of Maynard’s head. Diaz lands a few soft punches before catching Maynard with a left hook. Maynard, who was off balanced, falls to the floor and then bounces back up. The fighters taunt each other and the crowd lets them hear it. Diaz lands a right hand and Maynard clips him with a counter right. The crowd boos the sloppy, uninspiring performance from both men. Maynard lands to the body and head in the final minute. The crowd boos the fighters at the bell.
