Reports: MMA Managers Ali Abdelaziz, Abe Kawa in Backstage Scuffle During PFL Event
Two of mixed martial arts’ most well-known managers were allegedly
involved in a brief altercation on Friday night during the
Professional Fighters League card in Las Vegas.
According to multiple reports, Ali Abdelaziz of Dominance MMA and Abe Kawa of First Round Management were involved in an incident backstage at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. MMAjunkie.com was first to report the news.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that there
was an incident at the venue with the following statement:
“Two subjects were involved in a brief physical altercation where a battery was committed. LVMPD officers were on scene and temporarily detained one of subjects during the investigation. That subject was cooperative. He was issued a citation and released,” the statement read. “No enforcement action was taken regarding the second subject, who was also cooperative. There were no significant injuries.”
Kawa told ESPN that Abdelaziz approached him and said “I need to talk to you,” before slapping him on the side of the face. PFL executive vice president and general counsel Jim Bramson confirmed that altercation took place, but could not offer further details. He said that the organization will further investigate the matter.
Abdelaziz’s notable clients at Dominance MMA include Khabib Nurmagomedov, Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo, while Kawa represents the likes of Jon Jones, Jorge Masvidal and Tyron Woodley at First Round Management.
