Jose Mariscal Wants to Avenge Regional Circuit Loss to Bryce Mitchell

Jose Mariscal called out old foe Bryce Mitchell after his win over Morgan Charriere at UFC Fight Night 240 on Saturday.

Mariscal derailed the French standout’s hype train by putting on an impressive display of pace and pressure to rope in a split-decision win. “Chepe” subsequently called out Mitchell, who defeated him on the regional scene in 2017.

“There’s a lot of guys but the one specific ranked guy – I fought him in the regional scene, I fought him in his hometown and they gave it to him obviously,” Mariscal said during a post-fight media scrum. “I was cool about it, I said, ‘I will see you again one day.’ And I would like to callout Mr. Bryce Mitchell.”

Mariscal would ideally want the rematch at The Sphere in Las Vegas, where the UFC is planning a unique card to honor Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 14.

“Yeah man, I’m that Mexican that deserves to be in that Sphere fight, you know,” Mariscal said. “I go out there and show exactly what the Mexican fighting style is, you know. We go out there and put on a show and get that win and show the heart.”

Mariscal faced Mitchell at V3 Fights 60 in 2017 but missed weight for the bout, robbing himself of the opportunity to win “Thug Nasty’s” featherweight title. Mariscal also revealed that he had recently found out about his mother’s breast cancer going into the bout. However, “Chepe” believes he did enough to get his hand raised against Mitchell, who went on to win the unanimous decision.

“If you do your research on me, you can see that I fought him in his hometown,” Mariscal said. “What’s crazy is, I fought him when I found out my mom had breast cancer. And I had one of the worst cuts ever, my body locked up, I missed weight. I didn’t have the proper corner, I went in there fighting like I was just floating in there. And literally if you see the rounds, he was literally crawling back to his corner. And I thought I won the fight. But he’s a ranked guy, he’s in front of me, so I’m like, ‘You know what, let me run that one back and let’s see if we can put on another show.’”

Mariscal is currently riding a six-fight winning streak and undefeated in three UFC outings. Meanwhile, Mitchell is coming off a brutal first-round knockout loss against Josh Emmett in December and is 1-2 in his last three.
