By stopping Gian Villante in the third round of their light heavyweight co-headliner, “Shogun” earned his third straight win in the UFC. The Brazilian has also bested Corey Anderson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira during his current streak. Rua’s last lengthy winning streak occurred from 2006 to 2007, when he earned successive victories over Cyrille Diabate, Kevin Randleman, Kazuhiro Nakamura and Alistair Overeem under the Pride Fighting Championships banner.
17: Finishes for Rua in UFC and Pride competition. That ties him with Donald Cerrone for third most all-time among fighters with experience in UFC/Pride/WEC/Strikeforce competition. Only Mirko Filipovic (21) and Wanderlei Silva (20) have more.
16: KO/TKO triumphs for Rua in UFC and Pride bouts. That ranks third in UFC/Pride/WEC/Strikeforce competition behind Silva (19) and Filipovic (18).
94: Significant strikes landed by Rua. By comparison, Villante landed 55. “Shogun” also landed two knockdowns in the bout.
13: Knockdowns landed by Rua in UFC competition, tying him with Lyoto Machida, Anthony Johnson and Melvin Guillard for fourth-most in promotion history.
29: Total strikes by which Ray Borg outlanded Jussier da Silva in the third round of their closely-contested flyweight bout. Meanwhile, “Formiga” outlanded Borg by a combined 43-to-23 count in total strikes over the fight’s first 10 minutes. Borg ultimately prevailed via unanimous decision.
0: Takedowns landed in nine combined attempts for Borg (six) and da Silva (three).
6: Knockouts in UFC competition for Edson Barboza following his spectacular jumping knee finished Beneil Dariush 3:35 into the second round of their lightweight bout. That figure ties Barboza with B.J. Penn for the second-most knockouts in the history of the division. Melvin Guillard is No. 1 with seven knockout triumphs at 155 pounds.
21: Significant strike advantage for Dariush, who outlanded Barboza 28 to 16 in round one and 23 to 14 in round two before losing via knockout.
85: Total strikes by which Marion Reneau outlanded Bethe Correia in their bantamweight duel. Reneau outlanded her Brazilian foe by an 89-to-12 margin in the third round, which resulted in a trio of 10-8 scorecards from the cageside judges. The bout was ruled a majority draw after three rounds.
13: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 21 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that scored the bout for Reneau. The other eight media members scored the contest a draw.
6: Takedowns landed in 11 attempts for Alex Oliveira against Tim Means. That’s a UFC career best for the Brazilian “Cowboy,” who submitted Means with a rear-naked choke at the 2:38 mark of round two in their welterweight clash.
10: Takedowns successfully defended by Joe Soto during his unanimous decision triumph over Rani Yahya in a bantamweight scrap. Yahya landed his lone takedown of the fight in the opening stanza.
4: North-south choke finishes in UFC history after Michel Prazeres used to maneuver to submit Joshua Burkman 1:42 into the first round of their lightweight encounter. The others to utilize the submission in UFC competition are Jake Ellenberger (UFC 184), Rani Yahya (UFC on Fox 4) and Jeff Monson (UFC 57).
1,084: Days since Rony Mariano Bezerra’s last official UFC triumph, a first-round technical knockout triumph over Steven Siler at UFC Fight Night 38. Rony “Jason” lost a unanimous decision to Jeremy Kennedy in a preliminary featherweight bout on Saturday night.
8: Takedowns landed in nine attempts by Kennedy, giving him 13 takedowns landed in two UFC appearances.
9: Career first-round finishes for Paulo Henrique Costa, who stopped Garreth McLellan in 77 seconds in his Octagon debut.
