UFC 210 Betting Line: Oliveira & Brooks Clash With Lopsided Odds

(SPONSORED CONTENT) -- When it comes to news and gossip, the
lightweight division doesn’t disappoint. But while the top
contenders try to figure out who the champion is (or what sport
they want to fight in) others have a chance to move up the
proverbial ladder. The UFC 210 betting
line with the greatest divide is the Brooks-Oliveira clash.
Will Brooks is essentially a product of Bellator. While fighting for them over the course of two years, Brooks went a stiff 9-1. Brooks was also the Bellator Lightweight Champion, and defended the title twice before migrating to the UFC.
The 30 year-old began his stint with a unanimous decision victory
over Ross Pearson, before an unfortunate loss to Alex Oliveira (no
relation). My feelings are that Brooks simply took Oliveira too
lightly heading in to their match, and he was caught in the third
round and knocked out. It happens. At 19-2 Brooks’s talent is just
too difficult for me to dismiss.
It’s especially hard to ignore his potential when the oddsmakers have made him such a substantial preference on the UFC 210 betting line. Make no mistake – Brooks needs an epic win here to catapult himself up the rankings and in to proper contention. The matchup with Charles Oliveira should be a perfect way to get him back on track.
Charles Oliveira is a longtime staple in the UFC. His career began back in August 2010 and he has since gone 9-7-1 over the course of 10 fights this decade. He’s had a reputation for being “between weight classes” and has moonlighted as a featherweight since 2012. Along the way he’s lost to some of that division’s best including Anthony Pettis, Max Holloway, Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson.
This bout will mark his return to lightweight, a division that has become veritably stacked at the top. But it’s a challenge that the many they call Da Bronx is more than willing to take on full steam.
There is honestly no telling what could happen in this bout. Oliveira could be reinvigorated by his return to his natural weight class, especially after missing weight three times as a featherweight.
On the flip side, everything about Brooks suggest that he’s a realm too far out of reach for a fighter like Oliveira.
Since the UFC 210 betting line on this fight is so big, my general strategy is to go with the underdog on a standalone flier bet. Why not? Brooks is obviously the better prospect, and there’s a serious chance that he could end Oliveira in a heartbeat. But at some point, you have to take the underdog. Rarely do fight cards go chalk. I think the opening bout is where things go sideways.
