It goes without saying that UFC 200 was a memorable, historic event for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It was also rife with controversy and turmoil, as the original headliner -- Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor -- was scrapped and the Daniel Cormier-Jon Jones backup was cancelled. Just when the UFC settled on Brock Lesnar and Mark Hunt in the main-event slot, the promotion made a last-minute switch to Miesha Tate-Amanda Nunes.
Meanwhile, it was nice to hear Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” shatter eardrums for the first time since 2011, as Lesnar’s trademark entrance song cleared the way for his triumphant return. The World Wrestling Entertainment superstar scored multiple takedowns and tuned up Hunt with ground-and-pound for a unanimous decision. Hunt stepped to the cage to the night’s best song, though the legendary N.W.A.’s “Express Yourself” could not help him stave off defeat.
Other standout tracks included the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Kick in the Door” (Frankie Edgar), Joe Esposito’s “You’re the Best Around” (Travis Browne), Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon Rising” (Jim Miller) and Queen’s “We Wil Rock You” (Diego Sanchez).
