Katherine Corogenes hopes to make the most of her big-stage debut as she takes on Dakota Ditcheva at the upcoming 2022 PFL Championships. At 33, Corogenes is getting her chance to shine in mixed martial arts relatively late in life, but she brings plenty of related combat sports experience to the table. Overall, her record is 3-0, with all three victories scored inside the distance. Her opponents feature a combined 4-5 record, a figure which would improve greatly in the event of a victory over the 6-0 Ditcheva. Two out of Corogenes’ three triumphs have come by first-round submission, while the other was a technical knockout delivered in the third frame.
Corogenes is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt who initially came up under Marcio Cesar Gracinha's tutelage at AKA Thailand. In recent times, she switched camps and followed Gracinha to Nova Uniao’s subsidiary in Phuket. Corogenes’ fighting style reflects her background as she looks to take down her foes and submit them. She is very fluid on the mat, quickly capturing the back and either unleashing shots or looking her way to a choke. Her fastest victory, a rear-naked choke submission over Phayasing Singha, came 86 seconds out of the gate.
In spite of her short MMA career, Corogenes acquired worldwide experience by making her professional debut in China’s Wu Lin Feng, where she stopped Qi Yang with punches at the 2:55 mark of Round 3 at W.A.R.S. 40. She then overcame Singha at Spartacus Fight Event 8 in Thailand before competing in the well-known Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok. On that occasion, Corogenes forced Safari Sahar to tap due to armbar at 2:27 of Round 1. Now, she will fight for the first time in the United States, aiming to deliver another finish and conquer the fans’ hearts with her stellar grappling skills.
