Porto Out-Points Akano in Fatal Femmes

ONTARIO, Calif., Nov. 3 -- Fatal Femmes Fighting saw its way to San Bernardino County this evening when the Ontario Convention Center played host to the promotion's third installment of fights.

Although numerous fighters, including Roxanne Modafferi (Pictures) who was set to defend her title against a very game Vanessa Porto (Pictures), fell off the card in the weeks leading up to the event, it didn't seem to damper the spirits of the very "pro-locals" crowd that turned up to witness the evening's seven bouts.

Hitomi Akano (Pictures)'s last venture to American soil saw her on the losing end of a decision to the very tough Tara Larosa (Pictures) and unfortunately she did not fair better this time around. In the five-round main event, Porto was able to out-point the Abe Ani Combat Club fighter on two of the three judges' scorecards for a well deserved victory in an extremely competitive fight.

Porto, who submitted Tonya Evinger (Pictures) on her last outing, came out aggressively and despite having taken Akano's back was just not able to force the tap.

Lisa Ward (Pictures), up in weight for this fight, was able to get back on the winning track after her six-fight win streak was abruptly stopped this August when she met with Japan's undefeated superstar Megumi Fujii (Pictures) in Canada.

The Seattle-based fighter faced another Japanese name in this contest when she locked horns with Smackgirl World Remix winner, Megumi Yabushita (Pictures). Although Yabushita has not done particularly well against her American opponents, her judo and wrestling backgrounds are not to be underestimated. Similar to her fight in July against Ginele Marquez (Pictures), it seemed like Yabushita had a hard time really pulling the trigger though.

For the majority of the bout, Ward was able to dictate the action and score with a couple of big slams as well as leg kicks and knees that seemed to find their mark. The size difference didn't seem to matter in the end as all three judges gave the nod to Lisa Ward (Pictures).

Sophie Bagherdai (Pictures) was able to treat the crowd in attendance to the only TKO of the night when she stopped Michelle Ould just before the two minute mark of the first round.

Clinching quickly, Ould forced Bagherdai's back to the cage where she began working for a takedown. While dropping for a leg, Ould left her head exposed which allow Bagherdai to jump guard with what looked like a tight guillotine. Enduring the choke, Ould pried her head free but when she shifted her weight too far over her opponent, Bagherdai was able to sweep right into mount and unload some punches that were significant enough for referee Cecil Peoples to step in to halt the bout.

In other action, Christina Riddering won a decision over Karina Taylor. Brandy Nerney (Pictures) earned her first win with a decision over Yukiko Seki (Pictures). Sally Krumdiak took the decision from Allison Duckworth. And Cindy Hales had the night's only submission with an armbar win over Shawn Tamarabushi.
