Sanford MMA standout Gilbert Burns will challenge Usman for his championship in the UFC 258 headliner this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Burns, 34, carries a six-fight winning streak into the Octagon. The four-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion last fought under the UFC on ESPN 9 marquee on May 30, when he laid claim to a five-round unanimous decision over Tyron Woodley. Usman, meanwhile, has rattled off 16 consecutive victories. “The Nigerian Nightmare” last appeared at UFC 251, where he took a unanimous verdict from American Top Team’s Jorge Masvidal on July 11.
UFC 258 “Usman vs. Burns”—which streams to ESPN+ pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT—also features a women’s flyweight co-main event matching Maycee Barber with Alexa Grasso, a lightweight tilt pitting Bobby Green against Jim Miller and a pair of middleweight affairs, as Kelvin Gastelum faces Ian Heinisch and Julian Marquez meets Maki Pitolo. ESPN (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT) and UFC Fight Pass (6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT) are scheduled to share coverage of the undercard, a seven-fight slate of prelims highlighted by a middleweight confrontation between the undefeated Rodolfo Vieira and Anthony Hernandez.
