Rizin Fighting Federation, the premier Japanese mixed martial arts organization, celebrates its 10th year as a cornerstone of mixed martial arts in Japan with its landmark series. Rizin Landmark Vol. 9 goes down on Saturday at the World Memorial Hall in Kobe, Japan.
In the main event, Roberto Satoshi de Souza returns from his defeat to Patricky Freire at the most recent Bellator MMA x Rizin card to face Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Keita Nakamura in a lightweight clash. de Souza, a former lightweight champion with Rizin, had gone on a solid five-fight undefeated run in before dropping two of his last three bouts. Meanwhile, Nakamura is currently 2-0 with Rizin, his wins sandwiched around a loss to Lorenz Larkin at Bellator 237. After a four-year hiatus, he mounted a successful return to the promotion in April 2023, taking out fellow UFC veteran Kiichi Kunimoto with punches in the second round.
Speaking off Kunimoto, “Strasser” will fight rising Brazilian prospect Igor Tanabe in a welterweight showcase. Tanabe has submitted all five of his opponents. Kunimoto, on the other hand, is looking to break a two-fight losing streak.
Fight enthusiasts can tune in to Rizin.tv to stream the pay-per-view at 12 a.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. A closer look at the Rizin Landmark Vol. 9 particulars:
