Welterweights T.J. Grant and Ricardo Almeida will square off at UFC 124 in Montreal, Sherdog.com learned on Wednesday. Sources close to the bout report that both parties have agreed to the Dec. 11 fight in principle, and are awaiting the issuing of bout agreements to sign. It is currently unknown whether the match will be featured on the show’s main card or undercard.
The news comes less than two weeks after Grant’s Sept. 25 unanimous decision win over Julio Paulino at UFC 119. The 26-year-old Canadian has amassed a 3-2 record within the UFC since joining the organization in April 2009, including wins over Ryo Chonan and Kevin Burns.
Almeida, meanwhile, will look to rebound from a disheartening loss to Matt Hughes on Aug. 7, which saw the Brazilian choked unconscious just three minutes into the opening round. Prior to the defeat, Almeida had notched three straight wins over Matt Horwich, Kendall Grove, and Matt Brown in his welterweight debut.
UFC 124 -- which takes place at Montreal’s Bell Centre -- will be headlined by a welterweight title bout between champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Josh Koscheck, coaches of the current season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
