With two consecutive victories, Jose Aldo is slowly gaining his rhythm. He will look to further his momentum at UFC 237 by derailing Alexander Volkanovski, who is coming off a career-defining win over Chad Mendes. Let the numbers below show just how explosive their upcoming fight can get.
Octagon appearances
Volkanovski has only been in the UFC since 2016 but has been quite active with six Octagon appearances. He debuted against Yusuke Kasuya in front of a home crowd at UFC Fight Night 101 and has yet to experience defeat inside the Octagon since.Aldo made his maiden UFC appearance on April 30, 2011 against Mark Hominick. This UFC 129 scuffle was followed by 12 more bouts spread across eight years, the last of which resulted in a TKO win over Renato Carneiro in February.
Winning streak
Aldo’s conquest of Carneiro was preceded by his drubbing of Jeremy Stephens. This started a winnning streak for the dominant featherweight who lost a bit of sheen after suffering defeats to Conor McGregor and Max Holloway twice in his last four fights. As previously stated, Volkanovski has been perfect inside the Octagon, winning six times in as many fights. Apart from Kasuya and Mendes, he also beat Mizuto Hirota, Shane Young, Jeremy Kennedy and Darren Elkins.Championship experience
Aldo earned the World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight title by knocking out Mike Brown at WEC 44. He successfully defended it three times before he was promoted to UFC champion when Zuffa acquired the WEC. With seven titles defenses until his defeat to McGregor in 2015, Aldo remains the organization’s longest running champion at 145 pounds. He was promoted to champion once again after beating Frankie Edgar for the interim title at UFC 200 in 2016, but a loss to Holloway rendered him beltless a year later. While Volkanovski is yet to hold a major title, he is no stranger to championship duels. He held quite a number of belts from various promotions in Australia and Guam, including the Cage Conquest welterweight title, Roshambo MMA welterweight and lightweight titles, AFC featherweight title, PXC featherweight title and Wollongong Wars lightweight title.
Finishing rate
With a 74 percent stoppage rate, Volkanovski is quite the finisher. He is best known for his heavy hands, with his list of UFC victims including Kasuya, Kennedy and Mendes.
