Martin Nguyen’s accomplishments in One Championship stack up against virtually any of his peers.
As Nguyen awaits word on his next assignment from One Championship matchmakers, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied him to this point:
32: Years of age for Nguyen, who was born in Sydney on March 5, 1989.
9: Nguyen victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 69% of his career total (13). His list of One Championship victims: Koyomi Matsushima, Narantungalag Jadambaa, Eduard Folayang, Marat Gafurov, Kazunori Yokota, Li Kai Wen and Edward Kelly. Nguyen owns three other victories by submission (23%) and one more by decision (8%).
1: Submission loss on the Nguyen ledger. He tapped to a rear-naked choke from Gafurov just 41 seconds into their One Championship “Odyssey of Champions” main event in September 2015.
10: Consecutive calendar years in which Nguyen has made at least one appearance as a mixed martial artist. He went 2-0 in 2012, 1-0 in 2013, 1-0 in 2014, 1-1 in 2015, 2-0 in 2016, 3-0 in 2017, 1-2 in 2018, 2-0 in 2019 and 0-1 in 2020. Nguyen owns a 0-1 record in 2021.
1,169: Days spent by Nguyen as undisputed One Championship featherweight titleholder. He laid claim to the crown with a second-round knockout of Gafurov on Aug. 18, 2017 and successfully defended it on three occasions before relinquishing it in a third-round technical knockout loss to Thanh Le on Oct. 30, 2020.
3: Two-division titleholders, including Nguyen, in One Championship history. Aung La N Sang and Reinier de Ridder are the others. In addition to his aforementioned featherweight reign, Nguyen laid claim to the One Championship lightweight title with a second-round knockout of Folayang on Nov. 10, 2017.
5: First-round finishes on the Nguyen resume, four of which have taken place under One Championship auspices. He forced a doctor stoppage against Kelly in 4:17 at “Pride of Lions” on Nov. 13, 2015, cut down Wen with punches in 4:44 at “Global Rivals” on April 15, 2016, choked Christian Lee unconscious with a guillotine in 4:30 at “Heroes of the World” on Aug. 13, 2016 and punched out Yokota in 3:36 at “Quest for Power” on Jan. 14, 2017.
