All Roads Lead to Frankie Edgar for Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor's last interview on SportsCenter made for a lot of chatter as far as his return to fighting goes. Many names were mentioned by McGregor but of all the name's mentioned, one seemed interested in welcoming McGregor back to the cage, Frankie Edgar. Shortly after McGregor's interview, Edgar expressed his interest on social media and again with TMZ that he would like to oblige McGregor.

While McGregor has been training, and even suffered an injury during his time off, the divisions he once held titles in have moved on without him. With all the name's McGregor mentioned, he said he wanted to see what would happen in Abu Dhabi between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier at UFC 242. However, when doing his own interview with ESPN, Nurmagomedov said McGregor is far from being the next in line for the lightweight strap.

Nothing is guaranteed in the fight business but the current lightweight champion has spoken. If he loses the belt, Poirier might be interested in facing McGregor again since he has evolved a lot as a fighter since their last bout. UFC 242 will have to play out but one thing current champion Nurmagomedov said might that seems to make sense in regards to McGregor's next shot at a title was when McGregor returns, he would, "have to come back and make [a] nine or 10-fight win streak."

Considering McGregor is coming off a loss and Edgar is as well, a matchup between them could prove mutually beneficial before the end of the year. The fact that Edgar has addressed this match up twice means he is interested. With McGregor's troubles outside of the cage and inactivity, this could be the best fight for him, the fans and Edgar.
