Sherdog’s Top 10: Greatest British Fighters
Number 3
3. Arnold Allen
Allen is only 29 years old and still improving, but he has already done enough to finish an easy third on this list. He currently sports an outstanding mark of 19-1, having won 12 in a row, including a fantastic 10 straight since joining the UFC. He is one of the most textbook fighters in MMA, executing every strike and grapple with flawless technique. He might not possess knockout power or dominant wrestling, but he is so well-rounded and smart that he has won fight after fight, usually in dominant fashion. Among his more impressive victories, Allen choked out the very skilled grappler Mads Burnell, retired and dominated lightweight legend Gilbert Melendez, dominated a quality veteran in Nik Lentz, outsmarted and out-slicked the highly talented Sodiq Yusuff, knocked out the very dangerous Dan Hooker halfway through the first round and took a win over top contender Calvin Kattar when his knee gave out early in the second. Now at 29, Allen is preparing for the biggest fight of his life, facing featherweight legend and ex-champion Max Holloway in a main event. Depending on how he does and his further career, Allen's position on this list in a few years could move in either direction. But at present, he has done enough already to earn this lofty place.
