Sherdog’s Top 10: Knees

No. 5

5. Joachim Hansen vs. Caol Uno
K-1 Hero’s 1
March 26, 2005 | Saitama, Japan

K-1 was at one time one of the top combat sports promotions in the world, and whenever it teamed with Pride Fighting Championships for annual “Dynamite” shows on New Year’s Eve, they were massive. When K-1 launched its own MMA branch, Hero’s, the fight world hoped for and expected the sort of violence for which the organization had come to be known. Most of the time, it delivered; and almost no one delivered as wicked a knockout as Hansen.

The Norwegian and Uno tore into each other like rabid hyenas for almost three full rounds. While they were exhausted, they never stopped trying to do harm to one another. Unable to pass Hansen’s guard, the Japanese standout backed off and allowed “Hellboy” to stand. Uno, who was operating on fumes at that point, took a few steps toward the ropes, clamped down on his mouthpiece, reset his feet and walked right at Hansen. He was met with a casual-looking left knee.

Hansen’s knee obliterated Uno’s equilibrium and sent him crashing to the mat like a discarded Care Bear. He was senseless and stiff on his back, his right leg folded to the side. Hansen walked away like it was just another day at the office.
