5. Undefeated No More
Ricky Hatton was a perfect 43-0 with 31 knockouts when he encountered Mayweather on Dec. 8, 2007 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. He exited the ring in far worse shape. After a competitive start, Mayweather opened a cut above the Englishman’s right eye in the third round, countered effectively throughout and made his move in the 10th, his speed and skill proving too much for “The Hitman” to overcome. There, he floored Hatton with a left hook and mopped up the rest when referee Joe Cortez allowed it to continue. The underdog was in no condition to defend himself, and Mayweather connected with another left hook that resulted in another knockdown and prompted the stoppage. The victory pushed Mayweather’s perfect record to 39-0 and gave him his first knockout in more than two years.
