Sherdog’s Top 10: Mismatches
No. 6
Pride Shockwave 2005
Dec. 31, 2005 | Saitama, Japan
Martins was undefeated entering his second match under the Pride Fighting Championships banner. However, the massive 6-foot-7, 400-pound Brazilian was faced with an unsurmountable task: beating “The Last Emperor,” a man still regarded as the greatest heavyweight in MMA history.
As expected, Emelianenko blew apart “Zuluzinho” in short order at the Saitama Super Arena. The Russian dropped Martins with a left hand, climbed into top position and peppered him with punches and soccer kicks. “Zuluzinho” briefly returned to his feet, only to be knocked down a second time. Emelianenko jumped on top again and forced him to submit to punches.
It lasted just 26 seconds.
