7. UFC 100

Headlined by the heavyweight unification showdown between champion Brock Lesnar and interim titleholder Frank Mir, UFC 100 on July 11, 2009 was a historic success. At the time, Lesnar was the most recognizable star the Ultimate Fighting Championship had on its roster, and it was riding his nasty attitude and larger-than-life persona to the max. Lesnar pummeled Mir en route to a second-round technical knockout and then launched into his infamous post-fight tirade in which he trashed Mir, taunted the UFC’s primary sponsor and revealed plans to go back and have sexual relations with his wife.

The Lesnar-Mir rematch was not all UFC 100 had to offer. Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre was at the top of his game and toppled Thiago Alves in the co-main event; Dan Henderson delivered one of the most brutal knockouts in MMA history and obliterated Michael Bisping with a crushing right hand; Mark Coleman outpointed Stephan Bonnar for what would be his final UFC victory; and a young Jon Jones continued his surge through the light heavyweight division by choking out Jake O’Brien.

UFC 100 remains the standard by which all other MMA pay-per-views are measured, with more than 1.6 million buys.
