A win over Miguel Cotto has always held meaning, no matter the circumstances. Mayweather improved to 43-0 and laid claim to the WBC super welterweight championship with a unanimous decision over the eventual four-division titleholder on May 5, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. After 12 rounds, all three ringside judges saw it for Mayweather: 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111. He earned a disclosed payday of $45 million. While Mayweather was held to a 26-percent connect rate according to CompuBox stats, he nevertheless outlanded Cotto by significant margins -- 179-105 in total punches, 51-30 in jabs and 128-75 in power punches. Cotto connected with only 17 punches over the final three rounds combined, a three-fight winning streak that saw him defeat Yuri Foreman, Ricardo Mayorga and Antonio Margarito having run its course.
