UFC Fight Night “Lauzon vs. Stephens”
Feb. 7, 2009 | Tampa, Fla.
Some of the entries on this list were massive, career-defining moments, took place in big fights on an enormous stage or at least affected the outcome of the fight in meaningful ways. This is not one of them.
Josh Neer took on Mac Danzig in an exciting matchup of mid-career action fighters at UFC Fight Night “Lauzon vs. Stephens.” Both fighters were coming off losses, Danzig to Clay Guida and Neer to Nate Diaz, and both were badly in need of a win. As expected, the two fighters engaged in a back-and-forth brawl -- Neer beat up Danzig in the clinch, and Danzig dropped Neer with a right hand, all in the first round -- that offered all of the potential violence observers desired.
The second round saw the two lightweights utilize their grappling, and the scrambles came fast and furious. Eventually, Danzig ended up on top, with Neer in the half guard, and then it happened. “The Dentist” went on to triangle Danzig shortly thereafter, but Neer punching himself in the face remains by far the most memorable part of the fight.
