8. Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Riggs

Sanchez proved he could do more than just grapple when he locked horns with Riggs at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship staged an event on a military base for the first time. A former World Extreme Cagefighting champion, Riggs was thought to pose a significant threat to the undefeated “Ultimate Fighter” winner and had already posted victories over Kendall Grove, Joe Doerksen, Chris Lytle and Nick Diaz. After an uneventful first minute, the fight turned on a dime. Sanchez sat down “Diesel” with a lunging right hook, charged at him when he attempted to stand and delivered a devastating knee strike to the head. He then punched Riggs unconscious with a series of rapid-fire right hands. Referee John McCarthy rushed in to prevent further damage 93 seconds into Round 1.
