NR | Gabriel Benitez (21-8, 5-4 UFC) vs. NR | Justin Jaynes (16-5, 1-1 UFC)

ODDS: Benitez (-210), Jaynes (+175)

Heading into the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter Latin America” back in 2014, Benitez was the likeliest choice to become the UFC’s breakout Mexican star. He had the strongest resume on the cast and was one of the focal points of the season thanks to his charisma. While “Moggly” has not quite reached those heights, he has joined most of his castmates in overachieving and carving out a niche as a steady veteran. Opponents with some combination of athleticism and technique usually have the tools to get a win against Benitez, but he has consistently been able to send back opponents who either have obvious flaws or one-dimensional games. Coming off two straight losses, Benitez looks to rebound against Jaynes, who burst onto the UFC scene by stepping in on short notice and knocking out Frank Camacho in June. That is emblematic of Jaynes’ philosophy, as his entire style is built out around hunting for a finish, usually as a head-hunting power boxer. He could certainly catch Benitez, particularly early on, but the Mexican fighter should be able to coast this one out as the much longer fighter, particularly on the strength of his leg kicks. The pick is Benitez via decision.
