Luiz Jorge Dutra Jr. (11-2-1, 0-0 UFC) vs. Kiichi Kunimoto (15-2-1, 0-0 UFC)

The Matchup: Hyun Gyu Lim was originally paired with Kunimoto, but an injury to Jake Ellenberger resulted in Lim being promoted to the headliner. As a result, Dutra gets to make his Octagon debut.

The first pick of Team Nogueira on “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” Season 2, Dutra defeated Pedro Irie in the opening round of the show before suffering a torn ligament in his hand that left him unable to continue in the tournament. The 31-year-old Renovacao Fight Team representative is a veteran fighter, having turned pro in 2003. He owns two victories over UFC 168’s Fabricio Camoes, as well as a triumph against two-time Octagon competitor Luis Ramos. Meanwhile, his only two defeats, including one versus former top 10 talent Paulo Thiago, came as the result of an injury. The Brazilian has not been especially active in recent years, having competed only once in an official bout since 2009. Still, he is not averse to taking risks on the feet -- witness the kick that caused his injury in the Thiago bout -- and he will move forward with wide power punches and lead uppercuts.

Kunimoto enters the bout as the champion of the Heat promotion, and his current four-fight winning streak includes three wins via submission. He lacks a signature victory, however, and he might be at a size disadvantage, as well. Kunimoto’s preference for submissions suggests he could attempt to change levels should Dutra get overaggressive. However, Dutra is probably competent enough on the ground to avoid being overwhelmed.

The Pick: As with any fight involving newcomers, it can be difficult to predict how they will fare on the big stage after polishing off competition on the regional circuit. Give Dutra the edge here, as his superior experience and aggression will prove valuable. The Brazilian wins via decision.
