John Hathaway vs. Kris McCray
The Matchup: A tactical fight favors Hathaway here, though McCray can get surges of momentum and be a tough opponent with which to deal. Ironically, despite two losses in as many UFC appearances, McCray has seemingly improved since his run to the final on Season 11 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Still, defeats to the talented Court McGee and Carlos Eduardo Rocha have left him in a must-win situation.
Hathaway looked like a fighter on the rise in decision wins over Rick Story, Paul Taylor and former lightweight title contender Diego Sanchez, but his loss to Mike Pyle at UFC 120 knocked his stock back down to earth somewhat. Neither guy is a killer on the feet, though both are willing to exchange in spots.
The Pick: Hathaway should avoid wild exchanges and transitions and use his bigger size and strength to control positions and work for a decision win. Expect him to do just that.
