Phoe Thaw vs. Subba

Phoe
Thaw (6-0-0) vs. Keanu Subba
(6-3-0) – Featherweight
The undefeated Myanmar fighter Phoe Thaw has been given his toughest assignment to-date in the form of Malaysia’s Keanu Subba. The 33-year-old Phoe Thaw has been on a tear since arriving at ONE Championship in 2015 with five of his six victories coming via first-round KO. It is an impressive record but one that, at this stage, must still be accompanied by an asterisk. Phoe Thaw has yet to step into the cage with an athlete as skilled as Subba, and so their clash will provide Phoe Thaw with the perfect stage to impress upon people that he is one of the company’s top featherweights. The Yangon based athlete is also a professional lethwei fighter and has a background in aikido and Kyokushin karate.
Subba may have a few losses next to his name, but make no mistake, he is one of the of upper tier fighters in the featherweight division. Subba bounced back from an impressive third-round submission loss to former title challenger Christian Lee to record a quick-fire submission victory of his own over China’s Chao Xie. The two men will be acutely aware that with current champion Martin Nguyen absent through injury; this is the time for them to state their cases as the rightful challengers for the strap that Nguyen holds. A win in Yangon, may not be enough to vault them into immediate title contention but it should be enough to get them into the short list of candidates.
