Gomi suffered two recent losses in the Sengoku promotion, but has one of the most impressive resumes of any lightweight the sport has seen. He has a 2003 submission loss to current UFC 155-pound king B.J. Penn. The 31-year-old has been training with American Kickboxing Academy.
Details of the contract were not reported, but the deal is thought to be lucrative enough to lure Gomi from his native Japan, where he commands a higher profile despite recent losses.
Most signs point to Gomi making his Octagon debut against Kenny Florian.
