The Doggy Bag: James Toney Edition

I am so stoked that the UFC finally has stepped up to the plate with their signing of future boxing hall of famer James Toney. What impact will he have on the sport of MMA, and how will he do? Are there any fighters that are truly capable of standing with the champ?

Greg Savage, reporter and radio host: I am also a big fan of the James Toney signing. Apart from being one of my favorite fighters over the years, I think it will be interesting to see what happens when a boxer of his caliber steps into the Octagon.

Like most ardent followers of MMA, I expect he will have some big problems with the ground game, but should he be able to keep the fight upright, he will have an advantage on the feet against anyone in the sport, well, until they start throwing low kicks -- especially the dreaded side-check kick.

I am not sure Toney will have much of an impact on the sport per se, but, he should have a big impact on the bottom line of the UFC. He will generate a ton of media when he makes his MMA debut -- and win or lose -- he will be well worth his paycheck.
