“Superman” squared off with “Doomsday” in a Joe Silva special before a crowd of 1,791 at the Palms Casino Resort, and for two-plus rounds, Hallman ran circles around Howard. Best known for his lightning-bolt submissions on future UFC hall of famer Matt Hughes, Hallman executed a pair of takedowns in the first round, passed guard on multiple occasions and rode the momentum to a decided advantage in the striking statistics. According to FightMetric, he outlanded Howard by a 40-13 margin across the first 10 minutes. Behind on the scorecards and needing a finish, Howard made his move in the third round. It appeared as though Hallman would survive his considerable efforts as the bout drifted into the waning moments. However, Howard benefitted from a referee restart with 20 seconds remaining, floored Hallman with a Hail Mary left hook and polished him off 4:55 into the third round.
