Misaki trapped the Brazilian in a deep guillotine choke early on, but Santiago fought his way free and answered with strikes. A head kick nearly knocked out the Japanese veteran, but Misaki somehow managed to hang on. He came close to a stoppage of his own in the fourth round, where he put together punches and hammerfists and had Santiago in real trouble. Santiago returned the favor in round five. There, he forced Misaki’s corner to throw in the towel 4:31 into the frame, as he retained the Sengoku middleweight championship in one of the greatest battles in recent memory.
