Lombard thumped on his chest and blew kisses to the crowd after he left another unfortunate soul in his destructive wake. His attack on Silva was almost nuclear in nature.
Then the Bellator middleweight champion, Lombard knocked out the Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran a mere six seconds into the first round of their non-title affair at the Monroe Civic Center. A left hook-right hook combination during the opening exchange sent Silva -- a short-notice fill-in for former World Extreme Cagefighting champion Paulo Filho -- crashing face-first to the canvas before either man had broken a sweat. It remains the fastest knockout in Bellator history.
“That was beautiful,” said Lombard, a former Olympian who would carve out a path to the UFC a little more than two years later.
