A mix of veterans and prospects fills the UFC on ESPN 11 undercard this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, where Ultimate Fighting Championship mainstay Clay Guida will confront former King of the Cage champion Bobby Green in the featured prelim. Other notables set to compete include onetime Invicta Fighting Championships titleholder Brianna Van Buren, Dana White’s Contender Series alum Matt Frevola and “The Ultimate Fighter 26” finalist Roxanne Modafferi.
Now to the preview for the UFC on ESPN 11 “Blaydes vs. Volkov” prelims:
Lightweights
Bobby Green (24-10-1) vs. Clay Guida (35-19)ODDS: Green (-235), Guida (+195)
Guida’s ill-advised run at featherweight stalled out shortly after his arrival at 145 pounds, but he returned to lightweight in 2017 and started off well. He outwrestled Erik Koch without much issue and then starched Joe Lauzon in 67 seconds. However, any hope that Guida had rediscovered his old form has been dashed in the years since. Guida has looked vaguely like his old self, in that he has brought the same combination of manic striking and aggressive wrestling to the dance. Unfortunately for “The Carpenter,” he got tapped by Charles Oliveira and Jim Miller in short order, and even his lone win during that time should have been more dominant, considering it came against the husk of B.J. Penn. Guida looks to have a strong performance here against Green, who undoubtedly wants to snap a streak of hard luck. Green has been the more effective fighter on paper in his recent fights, but his willingness to move backwards and slip his opponents’ offense seems to be costing him on the scorecards. Despite getting the better of Drakkar Klose in most of the exchanges in their 2018 bout, Green still found himself on the losing end of the decision. There is a chance that happens here, but Green is simply the much more effective fighter at this point and should be able to handle everything that comes his way. The pick is Green via decision, with a decent shot at a finish.
