Pyle Replaces Wilson at UFC 98

Mike
Pyle will replace Chris Wilson
in a welterweight bout against Brock Larson
this Saturday at UFC 98 in Las Vegas.
Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed to Sherdog.com Friday morning that Wilson was unable to complete the necessary medical paperwork for the bout in time.
Kizer said the commission’s physician began contacting Wilson’s
doctor, based out of California, about two weeks ago to get further
verification on some documents already submitted. Kizer said the
doctor did not return multiple phone calls, and the commission
doctor also left a message with the doctor’s assistant.
“There was no negative finding on Chris at all,” said Kizer, who called the substitution a “done deal.” “We were only requesting more detailed medical information.”
Pyle, who has been medically cleared by the commission to step on the scale, notified Sherdog.com Wednesday that he’d began his weight-cut.
Larson (25-2) made his mark in the WEC’s welterweight ranks, where his only blemish came to former divisional champion Carlos Condit. The Minnesota made a successful Octagon debut against Jesse Sanders at UFC Fight Night 18 on April 1 with a first-round submission.
After cornering nearly a dozen UFC fights for teammates over the last few years, debutante Pyle (17-5-1) enters the Octagon on a four-fight win streak. Pyle, who hails from the Xtreme Couture squad in Las Vegas, submitted Brian Gassaway in the first round at Superfights MMA “Night of Combat 2” last October.
Pyle and Larson will step onto the scale at UFC 98’s official weigh-in starting at 4 p.m. PST.
