There is no question that Renan Barao is one of the world’s pound-for-pound best mixed martial artists. However, Urijah Faber – as well as more than a few observers – would have liked to see “The Baron” put in a little bit more Octagon time on Saturday night. Barao’s technical knockout stoppage of Faber in the UFC 169 headliner, which came 3:42 into round one, appeared to be premature. Early or not, Barao is now firmly established atop the bantamweight division.

Meanwhile, Jose Aldo was his usual dominant self in taking a unanimous decision over Ricardo Lamas in the evening’s co-headliner. The featherweight champ battered his foe with punching and kicking combinations before switching gears and taking Lamas down in rounds four and five. A late surge of ground-and-pound from Lamas in the bout’s waning moments would prove to be too little, too late.
