The Nevada Athletic Commission on Tuesday granted Alistair Overeem a fight license, clearing the way for the Dutch heavyweight’s high-stakes meeting with Antonio Silva at UFC 156 on Feb. 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Overeem last appeared before the commission in April, when he received a nine-month suspension due to a failed March 27 drug screening. The “Demolition Man” subsequently agreed to five voluntary drug tests between June and November and had also submitted to NAC-administered tests on Nov. 16 and Dec. 21. All results were negative.

The 32-year-old Overeem has not lost since September 2007, posting a record of 11-0-1 in his last 12 bouts. He last fought at UFC 141 a little more than a year ago, when he stopped former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Brock Lesnar with a kick to the body and follow-up punches. A victory over Silva would likely set the stage for Overeem to challenge Cain Velasquez for the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight crown.
