Showtime Championship Boxing returns on Saturday with an intriguing showdown between reigning IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook and surging contender Errol Spence Jr. The two will collide in the main event of a solid card of fights inside Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England, and at Friday’s official weigh-ins, both combatants were on target, green lighting the duel.
Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) is coming off the first loss of his pro career, though it was during a super fight of sorts when the reigning welterweight titlist jumped up two weight classes to challenge Gennady Golovkin for his world middleweight championship. The Sheffield native was stopped in the fifth but aside from that setback, “Special K” has been running the 147-pound division. Though he hasn’t been able to biold off his excellent win over then-unbeaten Shawn Porter three years ago due to opponents not wanting to fight him, Brook has held serve and continued to dominate. He hopes to do the same on Saturday and for Spence, Brook weighed in at 146.5 pounds.
The action will be broadcast on Showtime in U.S. beginning at 5:15 p.m. ET/2:15 p.m. PT since it’ll be live from the U.K. A special stream of the vacant WBA super middleweight title fight between George Groves and Fedor Chudinov will start at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. on Showtime Sports’ official Facebook page and the Showtime Sports YouTube channel.
