Sherdog MMA Pick’Em: UFC on FX 2 Final Report

Joseph Benavidez rewarded those who had faith in him.

The Team Alpha Male standout stopped Yasuhiro Urushitani on second-round punches in the quarterfinals of the Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight tournament at UFC on FX 2 “Alves vs. Kampmann” on March 2 at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia. Ninety-seven percent of players in the Sherdog MMA Pick’Em fantasy game picked Benavidez to advance in the draw, and the pre-tournament favorite did not disappoint.

After a one-sided first round, Benavidez came out firing in the second. He countered a kick with a searing right hook that put Urushitani on the canvas. A series of rights and lefts ended it there 11 seconds into round two. Urushitani had never before been finished.

The remainder of the main card was hard on Pick’Em users, as the majority of them misfired on Thiago Alves-Martin Kampmann (53 percent picked Alves) and Constantinos Philippou-Court McGee (79 percent picked McGee). The prelims were riddled with potholes, as well: Cole Miller-Steven Siler (96 percent chose Miller), Mackens Semerzier-Daniel Pineda (72 percent chose Semerzier), Kyle Noke-Andrew Craig (90 percent chose Noke) and Jake Hecht-T.J. Waldburger (71 percent chose Hecht). A majority of Pick’Em participants were on the mark with the three remaining undercard fights, as Shawn Jordan (85 percent) stopped Oli Thompson on second-round punches, Anthony Perosh (75 percent) put away Nick Penner with a series of first-round strikes and James Te Huna (88 percent) laid waste to Aaron Rosa.

Within Sherdog MMA Pick’Em, players earn points based on correct match-by-match predictions for a given event. A maximum of 210 points can be picked up in a single match.

Players are awarded 50 points for each correct pick, along with 30 additional points if they choose the correct method: decision, knockout/technical knockout or submission. If the method involves a finish, 30 additional points will be awarded to players who choose the correct round in which the finish occurs. Players are also allowed five boosts per event through which they can notch an additional 100 points for outcomes about which they feel particularly certain. However, any incorrect selections involving boosts will cost the player 50 points.

Sherdog MMA Pick’Em will return with UFC on Fuel TV 2 on April 14.
