Sergiy Derevyanchenko scored the most important win of his pro career on Friday night as he systematically broke down Tureano Johnson before knocking him out in the 12th. The win capped off a solid night of action at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla., headlining a special edition of PBC on FS1.
Derevyanchenko (11-0, 9 KOs) fought tooth and nail with his foe early on but as the battle wore on, Derevyanchenko seized control and busted Johnson up routinely. The 2008 Ukrainian Olympian busted up the Bahamian’s body and dropped him early in the final round. Once Johnson, also an ’08 Olympian, hit the deck, referee Gary Ritter waived it off, ending the fight at the 0:40 mark. Johnson fell to 20-2 with 14 KOs while Derevyanchenko will possibly take on the winner of Canelo-Golovkin in a few weeks for the IBF 160-pound title.
Huge Centeno Jr. (26-1, 14 KOs) scored a moderate upset over previously-unbeaten Immanuel Aleem in the co-feature. A perfect left hook to the jaw flattened Aleem, who was counted out just 27 seconds into the third. Aleem fell to 17-1-1 with 10 KOs.
Lightweight prospect Austin Dulay rose to 11-0 with his eighth pro knockout when he stopped Carlos Padilla (16-6-1, 10 KOs) after three rounds. Dulay knocked Padilla down in the third and Padilla’s corner opted to throw in the towel in between frames.
