(PRESS RELEASE) -- GLORY, the global leader in stand-up combat, announced today that heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven will defend his title against kickboxing and MMA icon Alistair Overeem on October 23 at the GelreDome in Arnhem, Netherlands at GLORY: Collision 3. Over 27.000 fans are welcome to witness the historic event in person.
Verhoeven is coming off a dominant performance at the GLORY 77 4-man heavyweight tournament last January, where he cruised past Hesdy Gerges and Tarik Khbabez to take home the tournament title. GLORY: Collision 3 will be Verhoeven’s 11th opportunity to win a world title when he faces off against Overeem.
After an illustrious decade-long run competing in MMA, Overeem signed with GLORY in June, returning to his kickboxing roots. He last competed in the sport in 2010, where he took home that year’s K-1 World Grand Prix title. Now, going up against Verhoeven, Overeem will look to take back the title of the best heavyweight kickboxer in the world.
This fight will be the third edition in the history of GLORY: Collision, a series of monumental heavyweight fights. The first two GLORY: Collisions involved Verhoeven and Badr Hari, two massive events which sold out arenas in both Germany and the Netherlands.
